How To: Layer Necklaces Like A Pro

Layering necklaces is a fun and creative way to add depth and texture to your outfit. By mixing and matching different lengths and styles of necklaces, you can create a unique and personalised look that reflects your individual style.

Ever wondered how many layered necklaces are too many, or stuck looking for layering ideas? Welcome to Kefi's guide to necklace layering, where we break down the main tips we live by.

1. Choose your statement piece

When layering necklaces, it's essential to start with a statement piece. Your statement piece should be the longest necklace in your layered look. We recommend choosing that piece first and then assembling your other layers around it. Our Sunburst Pendant Necklace is perfect as a statement layering piece!

2. Play with lengths

Opt for adjustable necklaces. Necklaces that have multiple clasp options allow you to determine exactly where they’ll fall on your neck or collar bone, and therefore, which other pieces will pair best with them. All of our necklaces come with this - which gives you lots of flexibility!

3. Start from top down

With your longest and statement piece on, you're then going to layer from the top until you meet back at your statement piece. Start with your simple, minimal chains at the top and work your way down to the chunkier, statement pieces at the bottom.

We usually like starting the shortest layer with a plain chain, especially if we are layering on more than two necklaces.

For the next layer, move on to a slightly bigger silhouette, ensuring to increase the length as you move down a layer. We like using pendant necklaces for the second and third layers.

4. Layer in odd numbers

When layering necklaces, it's best to layer in odd numbers, such as three or five necklaces. This creates a balanced and visually appealing look. If you're layering three necklaces, for example, you could have your statement piece as the longest, a mid-length necklace in the middle, and a shorter necklace at the top.

5. Mix it up

This is where all of the fun comes in. Rather than grab similar necklaces to your special piece, get creative with it! Spice your pairings up by mixing chains and pendant necklaces. Ball chains, snake chains, rope chains, links chains, the possibilities are endless. Layer it up but adding different textures and styles.

6. Have fun with it

All in all, the most important thing to consider when layering necklaces is to relax and experiment. Curating your necklace layer is about telling your story, and expressing your individual style.
